5.b have been reading the novel "The One and Only Ivan" by Katherine Applegate, which is based on the true story about the gorilla, Ivan. Ivan was brought from central Zaire in 1964 and lived a solitary life in The B&I Circus Store for 27 years until his release to the ZOO Atlanta in 1994, where he lived until he drew his last breath on 20 August 2012.
While reading the pupils have learned new vocabulary, learned new ways of thinking about animals, especially caged wild animals. They have learned new ways to look at themselves as humans, as the novel´s narrative voice is that of a gorilla. They have been reading, writing, drawing, creating, speaking, and reflecting. Such a great book and such a great reading experience! Well done, pupils!
